about

The recent passing of O. Chapman has been a cause of great pain for his small but devoted cult following, so it’s with an aim to heal and celebrate that Memorials of Distinction posthumously release this collection of demos and early rarities.

Throughout this collection of home recorded songs, it is joyful to hear the young O. Chapman progress as a guitar player, singer and songwriter, but one is simultaneously burdened with the pain of witnessing the progression towards his ultimate tragic demise. In these songs we get close to O. Chapman as a sensitive lover, a confused teen, a faded smoke-cloud, a stumbling young adult, and as an ambiguous anti-hero. We hear his obsessions with Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, various bluesmen and Bombay Bicycle Club, alongside the late-period influences of Kurt Vile, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive.

This is a warts-and-all collection: it would be a grave dishonour to the conflicted but honest O. to cherry-pick, censor or do anything other than simply present the material scraped together from various computers, hard-drives and internet sources. Please enjoy this music respectfully.
